1) VERY NICELY DETAILED CHARCOAL/PENCIL DRAWING OF ADMIRAL WILLIAM D. LEAHY. Admiral Leahy rose during his long career to be Chief of Naval Operations, the most senior officer in the United States Navy. He served throughout WWII as Personal Chief of Staff to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He served as Chief of Staff & served under Harry S. Truman until his 1949 retirement. He was the first naval officer ever to hold a 5-star rank in the US armed forces. Drawing shows Admiral Leahy in uniform & is signed by artist Larry Pendleton. Dated "43". Larry Pendleton is also known for a portrait of Harry Truman which he presented to the new president in 1945. Drawing measures approx. 16" X 20". CONDITION: drawing has scattered sm. areas of light staining & notable sm. stain on left edge but has good attractive appearance. (02-15637/RW).
2) FRAMED PEN & INK DRAWING OF THE USS CALIFORNIA (ACR-6) & POEM BOTH BY ADMIRAL HARRY M. P. HUSE. Admiral Huse attended the US Navy Academy & had a long distinguished service until his retirement in 1922. He won the Medal of Honor during the landings at Vera Cruz, Mexico April 1914 for distinguished conduct. Pen & ink drawing appears to be USS California later renamed USS San Diego, a United States Navy armored cruiser. Drawing measures 3" X 4 3/4" & shows the port side silhouette of the ship which has a cage foremast & four funnels. The setting sun is behind the forward part of the ship. The poem which is hand printed in black ink memorializes the sinking of the ship. Drawing is signed Admiral Huse. Also included is internet information on Admiral Huse & the USS California. CONDITION: frame, drawing & poem are in very good condition. (02-15640/RW). $300-500.
