7-SHOT REVOLVERS. 1) 1ST MODEL. Cal. 22 RF. S# 393. Bbl. 2.5" bbl. stamped “ALLEN & WHEELOCK WORCESTER MASS / ALLEN’S PAT’S SEPT 7, NOV 9, 1858”. This earliest model has the unique “hourglass” shaped cyl. pin knob at rear of frame, later production had more traditional cyl. pins entering from front of frame. Other early characteristics include sighting groove in top strap. CONDITION: good to very good overall, retains most of its nickel plating, flaking in areas w/ pitting. Mechanically cyl. does not index, pitted bore. (01-18613/JS). 2) 2ND MODEL. Cal. 22 RF. S# 466. Bbl. 3" bbl. stamped “ALLEN & WHEELOCK WORCESTER MASS / ALLEN’S PAT’S SEPT 7, NOV 9, 1858”. This is scarcest of the sidehammer 22s, being transition from 1st model having first front entry cyl. pin still w/ sighting groove in top strap only seen on early guns, roll engraved cyl., pin held by knurled headed screw at bottom of frame. No more than 100 of these transitions thought made. PROVENANCE: ex- Phillip Van Cleave collection; ex Paul Henry collection. CONDITION: very good overall, gray patina, good markings, mechanically functional w/ clear rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Lifelong collection of early Allen pistols. (01-18614/JS). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
