CARTRIDGE BELTS. 1) 1876 WATERVLIET ARSENAL CANVAS PRAIRIE BELT. Belt has 54 cartridge loops for .45 caliber rifle cartridges. Tan canvas fabric belt is equipped w/ a brass center bar frame buckle. Stitched two piece bridle leather tongue. Tongue is marked "WATERVLIET ARSENAL". Tongue is 1 3/4" X 13". Overall width of canvas belt is approx. 2". CONDITION: Tan belt has wear & staining but stitching remains tight. Brass buckle turning patina. Varnished leather has wear and flexing. Stitching is tight. 2) ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL KHAKI WEB PRAIRIE BELT. Belt approx. 3" wide. Belt has 45 loops for .45 cal. rifle ammo. Leather tongue has faint Rock Island marking. Center bar brass buckle. Belt is fitted w/ brass sword hook, held by a leather tab w/ 2 brass rivets. Varnished leather tongue is approx. 1 1/2" X 13". CONDITION: belt has moderate wear and staining of web portion. Leather has flexing and cracking. Worn buckle turning patina. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows.
