2 SHORT SWORDS, A DAGGER & A FIJIAN WAR CLUB.

1) SHORTENED SWORD. Overall length: 23". Blade length: 17 1/2". The heavily shortened blade has 2 narrow fullers over a wider fuller & appears to be from the 17th or 18th century. It is engraved w/ 4 different Latin phrases w/ a 17th century gentleman on either side. It has a simple iron crossguard & a shaped wooden handle w/ 2 attachment rivets on each side. Hide scabbard over wood. CONDITION: as stated the blade is heavily shortened & does exhibit a medium gray mottled patina. The existing engraving remains reasonably sharp. Crossguard has a dark patina. Grip shows significant wear after alteration. Scabbard is quite sound. (02-16122/BF).
2) FANCIFUL DAGGER. Overall length: 22 3/4". Blade length: 13 1/4". A very exuberant dagger, likely of the 20th century, featuring a motif that is likely from the area around India, Burma or Thailand. The plain blade has a 4 1/2" false edge. Brass hilt includes a dragon & elephant embellished guard w/ a huge bulbous brass pommel cap. 2 Piece carved bone grips are held on by 3 rivets on each side. The scabbard is sheet brass w/ tooled brass throat, tip & middle decoration. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish. Brass has the beginnings of a mellow patina. Grips show minor wear & staining w/ a few drying cracks. Scabbard has a few tiny shallow dents. (02-16124/BF).
3) ETHNIC SWORD. Overall length: 30 1/2". Blade length: 24". This ethnic sword is possibly African or Oceanic in origin. The blade has 3 narrow fullers & swells from a width of 2 1/4" to 3 1/2" as it nears the tip. The solid brass handle has a turned down guard decorated w/ snakes on either side. Grip is brass as is the 2 armed pommel cap. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark oxidized finish. Hilt has a deep, dark mustard patina. (02-16127/BF).
4) FIJIAN MISSILE CLUB. Overall length: 21". This scarce Fijian war club, also known as an iula tavatava, is made of carved indigenous hardwood inlaid w/ hand carved crescents & stars as well as other objects. The chip carving on the handle extends 8" up from the base. There are ridges carved in the 6" diameter head. CONDITION: club shows overall light wear. (02-16149/BF). $700-1,100.
