2 US WWI REMINGTON MODEL 1917 BAYONETS.
These versatile bayonets have been used by the US Military through 2 world wars: Korea & Vietnam on both the model 1917 rifles & military issue combat shotguns. 1) 16 7/8" fullered blade Model 1917 bayonet. Gray blade has blue at ricasso. Right ricasso marked w/ U.S. flaming bomb, eagle head acceptance mark. "20" & "X". Left ricasso marked w/ encircled "Remington 1917". Balance of metal is blue. Smooth walnut grips w/ 2 transverse grooves. Pommel is made w/ oil hole. Green leather scabbards with metal throat & tip. Throat is equipped w/ M1910 belt hook & marked w/ "GF" in oval. CONDITION: blade has been sharpened. Has scattered peppery oxidation while retaining most of its gray finish. Balance of metal retains most of its original blue. Grips have very light wear. Scabbard retains 70% green finish w/ tight stitching. Metal has light wear & oxidation. 2) 16 7/8" fullered blade. U.S. Model 1917 bayonet. Gray laid w/ blued ricasso. Ricasso marked on right side w/ "U.S." flaming bomb "17". Left Ricasso marked "1917" & encircled Remington. Balance of metal is blue w/ straight cross guard. Grooved walnut grips. Pommel w/ oil hole is marked on left side w/ encircled "Broad Arrow". Leather scabbard, metal throat & tip painted green. Throat equipped w/ M1910 belt hook. CONDITON: blade has been sharpened & has spots of light oxidation throughout. Balance of metal retains 50% worn blued finish. Grips have light wear, handling marks & staining. Scabbard retains 60% thinning, green finish w/ notable oxidation at tip. PROVANANCE: from the Estate Collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (02-19734-15/RW). $200-400.
