1) Stein measures 11 1/4". The body of the stein reads "8. Comp. 2. Bad. Gren. Rgt. Kaiser Wilh. I. No 116. Heidelberg. 1905-07." near the base. The top reads "Es lebe hoch das Regiment das sich mit Stolz Kaiser Wilhelm I. nennt." The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of Grenadier troops at camp & in battle. The base has a lithophane that shows a soldier with his wife. Elaborate pewter domed lid has a seated infantry soldier toasting with his canteen. CONDITION: the base of the stein is broken & glued. The lid shows light wear. 2) A stoneware stein measuring 11 1/4" in height. The body of the stein depicts a soldier on a walk through the woods, a large spray of arms, and a soldier on guard duty. Elaborate pewter domed lid has a seated infantry soldier toasting with his canteen. CONDITION: there is a small break and associated chip on the rim of the stein. The finial on the pewter lid is a bit bent. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18596/BF). $200-300.
