Cal. 20 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 255099. The 28" bbls. without striking number are fitted with slightly raised matted rib fitted with glued on glow worm front red bead and original steel bead. Tops of barrels are marked with Sterlingworth steel info and Fox Philadelphia address on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with serial number, Fox proof and “SECOND”. This mark is possibly stamped in because roll die markings on tops of barrel are partially impressed and difficult to read. Case hardened small sized Fox action with rotary bolt features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is wiggle border engraved and marked “STERLINGWORTH” on each side. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Newer plain American walnut pistolgrip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over thin “Pachmayr” rifle pad. A leather covered comb riser has been installed and appears to be glued on. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Splinter forend with original wood has spring tension pluck off release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .618", L .617". Restriction: R .006" (IC), L .013" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .030". STOCK: DAH: 2 5/8". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 14 1/2". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: good as partially refurbished. Barrels retaining most of what is most likely an old reblue with some subsequent spotting, marks and silvering on rib. Action retains traces of original case hardening color and is mostly pewter gray. Replacement buttstock retains nearly all of its original oil finish. Original forend wood shows light refinish with checkering considerably worn. Bores are shiny with light frosting. Action is tight. Mechanically good, except top lever will not remain to the right and needs to be held in place to close gun. Triggerplate screw shows considerable use. (22-2181/MGM). CURIO. $700-1,000.
