2025 NEVADA’S DESERT (NELSON) BIGHORN SHEEP HERITAGE TAG AUCTION

Dates: July 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025 except for units involving Department of Defense Lands (280 – 282, and those portions of Unit 181 on the Naval Air Station) which may only be hunted during their season dates set by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners.

Species: Nelson (Desert) Bighorn

Weapon: Any legal weapon may be used throughout the season.

Open Units: For 2025, a maximum number of rams harvested by all specialty tagholders within each unit group will be set based on the initial unit group quota approved by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners in May 2025. Those unit groups with a quota of less than 3 tags (residents and nonresidents combined) will be closed to all specialty tag holder harvest, including Heritage tagholders. Heritage tagholders or their licensed guide must call 833-923-0754 each day before hunting to determine if any additional unit groups are closed to specialty tag holder harvest.
Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other lower 48 state, and more desert bighorn sheep than any other jurisdiction in North America. This vast and rugged canvas of both the Mojave and Great Basin Desert mountains are naturally suited for wild sheep. Through the vision of wildlife biologists and passionate support from conservation organizations like NBU-Reno, bighorn sheep restoration and water development efforts were monumental to increasing Nevada’s desert bighorn population in 2025 to over 7,000 from its low of 2,500 in 1960. Though total bighorn numbers have been higher in recent years, tremendous rams still exist across the state. The most recent harvest data from the 2024 season included 169 rams with 6 rams 170+ B&C from 3 different hunt units. The largest ram unofficially scored 175+ B&C and the greatest horn length and base from the 2024 season was 38 4/8” and 16 2/8”, respectively.

NOTE: This item can be paid for via check, wire transfer, or credit card. If paid by credit charge, the hunt will be subject to a 3% surcharge.
