20th Century Made Suit of Medieval Spanish-Type Knight's Armor, with Sword. A nicely made replica suit of armor made of steel, standing approx. 6 feet tall. Two-piece helmet with movable pierced visor, decorated with etched floral designs on the visor and neck guard. Ostrich and peacock plumes at top. Breast and back plates are two piece with locking tabs on the sides. Front of the breast plate is wonderfully etched with scenes of two jousting knights on horseback, and a floral etched decorated skirt. Shoulder and elbow sections are somewhat articulated where each piece joins the other. They are attached at the top of the breast plate with leather straps. Gauntlets are attached with screws to the lower arm section; fingers of the gauntlets have scales, but are not fully articulated. Front sides of the shoulder covers are decorated with etched floral designs, as is the elbow tip, elbow center pivot, and edges and center of the gauntlets. Lower torso cover has a decorative raised center panel on each side with etched floral decorations around the borders. It is held onto the breast plate with four leather straps. Thigh and knee covers are attached to the shin guards with metal tabs. Knee cover and sideplates are decorated with etched floral designs. Shin covers are hinged two-piece types with an articulated upper foot cover of five riveted plates. Front of the shin covers are decorated with etched floral designs. Condition is very good. The steel finished in a polished type state, showing age and minor discoloring; leather straps are showing age and cracking. The armor stands on a wooden base about 6'' high. There are plastic tubes to simulate legs and a decorative cloth covering the exposed backside section. The center is held up with a wood cross brace. The sword is a replica of a medieval knight's broad sword, with a 38.5'' double edged blade, and a straight cross-shaped guard and handle. The guard and handle are cast from zinc with raised decorations of a warrior and shield, and St. Michael slaying a dragon. The crossguard has ''Carlos V'' in raised letters on the front side. Sword OAL is about 45'', and the condition is very good, although not up to the quality of suit of armor. The armor shows a lot of workmanship, with real rivets, wonderful etched panels, and attention to detail. Includes a small book on Spanish arms and armor. Est.: $750-$1,500.
