Donation: This painting depicts a stylized cave drawing of a horned animal, each having individual ancient symbols embossed onto its body; each individual symbol represents his or her life experience. Additionally, they each also have identical matching symbols representing events they have shared together creating shared memories.
Special notes: Born the eighth child of thirteen, Laurel grew up in a broken down shack, hidden deep inside Washington States Olympic Rainforest. “As a little girl I was met with a variety of challenges,” Laurel says. The daily chores included hunting, fishing, chopping wood, milking the cow, gathering wild greens, and drinking water collection. Education was limited, but good, in the three room school house maintained by the small mountain community. Today, Laurel is an accomplished artist, her one-of-a-kind “Relief Sculptures” are a unique art method she alone has created. “Relief Sculpture offers more dimension than a traditional canvas painting,” Laurel explains. Her exquisite works of art are heavily textured, filled with movement, rich in colors, with astounding 50-plus applications of paint. Inspired by the irregularities of coarse rock and the meandering mineral deposits found cave walls, it’s what Laurel calls “natures accidental beauty”. 100% of the proceeds generated from this donation benefit WSF
