A1 SPECIAL. Cal. 28 Ga. S# 236336. Bbls. 28" are marked “PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. PEERLESS STEEL” on concave matted rib, fitted with 2 ivory beads. Rear portions of barrels are engraved with 3 3/4" triangles of small scroll engraving. 1 1/2" Triangles are at muzzles. Barrel flats stamped with Parker overload proofs and engraved with peerless steel logo. Gauge and “00” frame markings are on bottom of rear lump. Typical Parker “00” frame action with lightening cuts in water table has newly applied correct style markings for this grade. Action features automatic safety (“S” inlaid in gold) and engraved, gold plated single selective trigger. Action is filed in “A1 Special” style with 2 beads around fences and scroll terminated bead at transition of front to rear of action. Action engraved with near full coverage, small scroll as background to circular depictions of floral bouquets on sides, as well as around relief gold inlayed “PARKER BROS.” on bottom. There are more floral bouquets on trigger plate. Fences are semi relief engraved w/ oak leaves & acorns. Matching scroll is on trigger guard bow and tang, which has S# in relief gold. Crotch figured American walnut, straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/8" over skeleton steel buttplate. Checkering of side panels and at grip is of “A1 Special” fancy style with flares toward comb & butt. Side panels have fleur-de-lis drop points. A gold oval engraved “S.G.” is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend has flat steel tip and usual release. Checkering is nearly full coverage and has acanthus highlight carved in at terminations of release and in front of iron. MEASUREMENTS: Bore diameter: Left .551, Right .551. Bore restriction: Left .020 (Mod), Right .004 (IC). Wall thickness: Left .020 (along top rib), Right .024. DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 7/16". Cast: approx. 1/2" off. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 3oz. LOP: 14 1/8". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: good quality, tan leather case with stitched leather corners is in zippered reddish canvas leather trim outer cover. Interior of case is lined in burgundy cloth and contains a square oil bottle. CONDITION: very fine as custom finished with only a few minor handling and assembly marks, most notably a small, fairly deep ding on right side of comb. Bores are bright and shiny. Trigger works when in left barrel 1st position, will not fire left barrel when in right first, otherwise mechanically fine. Case leather is very fine as protected by its outer cover which has minor scuffs. Zippers work. Interior is also very fine with some minor rubs. (21-1620/MGM). CURIO. $15,000-30,000.
