2nd Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifled Musket, by Tower (1857), NVSN, .577 cal., 39'' originally blued barrel, walnut stock, brass triggerguard, buttplate and forend cap; standard rear sight, lockplate marked ''1857/Tower'' and ''(crown)/VR''. Area of stock just beneath hammer with five-nail applied brass reinforcement. Chain and nipple protector are present, as is ramrod, and modern black leather sling. Condition is very good to fine. Barrel retains approx. 40% blue, mostly in protected areas, with light surface corrosion near nipple bolster. Stock with light to just moderate scuffs, but ''WD'' markings are clear. Good functioning action, and good bore. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
