1) MOUNTED OFFICERS SABER. Overall length: 40 1/2". Blade length: 34 1/8”. This sword is likely for a mounted officer & dates to about 1840. The blade has a single wide fuller & is etched over 1/2 its length w/ various foliate & military motifs. Brass 3 branch hilt w/ spade shaped languets. Wire wrapped leather grip. Brass scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish & has several very shallow nicks to the edge. Hilt is undamaged but quite dirty. Grip shows wear & minor losses. Wire appears complete but has been displaced from several grooves. Scabbard is undamaged but quite dirty. 2) MOUNTED ENLISTED SABER. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 32”. Plain blade w/ a single wide fuller. Iron 3 branch guard. Wood grip w/ a bulbous center. Iron mounted, animal skin covered, wooden scabbard. It is likely this is an Indian, Middle Eastern or African sword from a British possession during the early to mid 19th century. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray cleaned finish w/ spotty areas of oxidation. Iron hilt has a dark patina w/ overall light pitting. Grip shows light wear. Scabbard has oxidation & pitting on the iron mounts. Hide cover is dry & splitting in places. Wood is solid. 3) CIRCA 1830 MILITIA OFFICERS SWORD. Overall length: 37 3/4". Blade length: 30 1/2". Single fullered blade has rudimentary etching over 1/3 of its length w/ traces of blue & gold highlights. Gilded brass hilt w/ highly decorated clamshell guard depicting an American eagle, Liberty cap, shield & Indian princess. Ornate knuckle bow w/ Indian princess head pommel. 2 Piece mother of pearl grip, Ornately decorated brass scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina. Hilt is quite loose. Knuckle bow is detached from pommel. Mother of pearl grips & wire wrap are not well done replacements. Scabbard has scattered dents & dings w/ only traces of gilding remaining. Scabbard does not fit the sword well & is likely a replacement. (02-14325/BF). $700-1,000.
