1) EARLY WESTERN BOWIE KNIFE. Overall length: 14 1/2". Blade length: 9 5/8”. Plain unmarked, bowie style blade w/ iron crossguard. 2 Piece wood grips w/ 3 iron rivets on each side. 1 Grip has a burned in mark resembling a brand. Heavy black leather sheath is marked on the reverse, “MERRITTS SADDLERY SALMON IDAHO”. Scabbard has a smaller sheath sewn to the front that does not have a knife. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, lightly mottled patina. Grip & scabbard show moderate wear. 2) AMERICAN BELT KNIFE. Overall length: 11 3/8”. Blade length: 7”. Blade has a pronounced central medial ridge w/ a lobed German silver crossguard. 1 Piece certifiably antique ivory grip w/ a German silver escutcheon & pommel cap. Brown leather sheath w/ tin liner. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned finish. Grip has a long crack on the face & a shorter crack extending up from the guard about 1/2". Sheath shows reasonably light overall wear. 3) AMERICAN BELT KNIFE. Overall length: 14 3/4”. Blade length: 9 1/2". The long slender blade has a 2 1/2" clip point & a pronounced ricasso. Brass guard w/ rings at the ends & engraving on the top & underside. Brass ferrule & pommel held in place by brass screws. Stacked leather washer grip. Brass mounted leather sheath w/ frog stud on the throat. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish w/ evidence of sharpening. One of the rings at the ends of the guard is missing. Sheath shows heavy wear & is likely missing a brass tip. PROVENANCE: Collection of Roger Ballard. (02-14709-11/BF). $800-1,200.
