3 BRITISH CUTLASSES.
1) MERCHANT CUTLASS. Overall length: 32 1/2". Blade length: 27". Blade has a single 3/8" fuller near the top. Blade is stamped "(crown)/GR". Blade appears to be of the George III period but has been rehilted during the mid 19th century, likely for merchant vessel use. Hilt consists of a straight piece of semi-circular sheet iron over a smooth hard wood grip. Grip is hand tooled & appears to be oak. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray patina w/ areas of light pitting & nicks to the edge. Guard has a black jappaned finish. Grip is intact & shows significant use. (02-13367/BF). 2) M1804. Overall length: 33 3/4". Blade length: 28 1/2". Plain flat unmarked blade. Black painted sheet iron figure 8 style guard w/ black painted iron ribbed grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a very dark patina w/ overall pitting & several light nicks to the blade. Hilt shows minor dents & dings from hard use. Grip is 85% intact w/ a sm. portion missing near the ricasso. Hilt's black jappaned finish remains mostly intact. (02-13387/BF). 3) M1859 CUTLASS BAYONET. Overall length: 33". Blade length: 26 3/4". Plain flat blade is stamped at the ricasso w/ a knight's head indicating mfg. by Kirschbaum of Germany. These bayonets were produced for the Pattern 1858 Enfield rifle musket & were imported heavily by both Union & Confederate forces during the Civil War. Sheet iron guard w/ 2 piece checkered pressed leather grips. Iron mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a bright finish w/ scattered areas of light discoloration. Hilt & grips show light overall wear. Scabbard mounts have a dark patina. Leather is flaked but remains quite solid. (02-13402/BF). $1,000-1,500.
