THURBER SIDE HAMMER 7-SHOT REVOLVERS. 1) EARLY THIRD MODEL 22 RIMFIRE ALLEN & WHEELOCK SIDE HAMMER 7 SHOT REVOLVER. Cal. 22 RF. S# 836. Bbl. 2 1/2". Bbl. stamped w/ 2 line Allen & Wheelock address & patents on left side of bbl., still retaining top scrap w/ sighting channel & rnd. button cyl. pin that pushes from front to rear of frame. CONDITION: good to very good overall; complete & matching, gray metal, retains 30% original varnish to grips, mechanically fine w/ dirty bore. (01-18585/JS). 2) SCARCE 4TH MODEL 22 RIMFIRE ALLEN & WHEELOCK SIDEHAMMER 7-SHOT REVOLVER. Cal. 22 RF. S# 71. Bbl. 3" bbl. stamped “ALLEN & WHEELOCK WORCESTER MASS / ALLEN’S PAT’S SEPT 7, NOV 9, 1858”. This is early 4th model w/ integral notched sight at rear of top strap, but solid frame w/ cyl. pin access at back of frame, this this will be last model to have oversized screw at bottom of frame to retain cyl. pin. CONDITION: very good overall, no finish, crisp w/ gray patina, good markings, retains most of its original varnish on the grips. Mechanically fine w/ clear rifled bore. (01-18600/JS). 3) RARE TRANSITIONAL 3RD MODEL 22 RIMFIRE ALLEN & WHEELOCK SIDEHAMMER 7-SHOT REVOLVER W/ INTEGRAL FIXED REAR SIGHT. Cal. 22 RF. S# 181. Bbl. 2.5" bbl. stamped “ALLEN & WHEELOCK WORCESTER MASS / ALLEN’S PAT’S SEPT 7, NOV 9, 1858”. This is very scarce model w/ transitional frame w/ raised lip notched site at rear of top strap. Still utilizing earlier 3rd models w/ round button cyl. pins that push from front through rear of frame. CONDITION: very good overall, traces of finish, overall gray patina, good markings & cyl. scene, grips retain most of their original varnish, mechanically fine w/ clear rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Lifelong collection of early Allen pistols. (01-18601/JS). ALL ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
