3 HATCHETS, 1 ADZE & 1 FASCINE KNIFE FROM THE 18TH

& EARLY 19TH CENTURY.
1) HATCHET. Overall length: 13 1/2". Head length: 6 3/8". Blade length: 5 1/8". The iron head has a 7 pointed star like stamping on one side & an 8 pointed star like stamping on the other. The handshaped wooden haft has the initials, "AM" carved in the top and a lanyard hole in the bottom.
2) HATCHET. Overall length: 19 1/8". Head length: 8". Blade length: 4 3/4". The large iron head has the initials, "F.A.I." chiseled into a face of the blade. Handshaped wooden haft has numerous worm holes.
3) HATCHET. Overall length: 16 1/2". Head length: 6". Blade length: 1 7/8". The iron head is unmarked but has a turned down spike opposite the blade. Handshaped wooden oak haft.
4) ADZE HEAD. Overall length: 6 3/4". Blade length: 4 1/2". The iron head has a wide forged blade for smoothing timbers or digging. The triangular eye is reinforced at the ends. There is a note accompanying this piece indicating it was dug near Ft. Ticonderoga & is from the Neumann Collection.
5) FASCINE KNIFE. Overall length: 13 1/2". Blade width at widest point: 6 7/8". Socket is 3 3/4" long. This fascine knife was made to fit on a long haft. It has a hook blade with an edged inside curve & a short 3" straight blade on the opposite side. The flat of the blade is stamped, "27" & it has an illegible maker's mark below. The diameter of the socket is over 1 1/2" wide. CONDITION: all iron has a dark overall oxidized patina. All edges are good & free from major chips & cracks. Wooden hafts are solid & not rotted.
