FLASKS. 1) Flask measures approx. 8 3/4" x 5” and has a pioneer holding an anchor & shovel on the screw-on cap. It has a red, black & white suspension rope and is decorated on both sides. One side reads “Zume am. an. M. Dientz. b.d.3. Komp. Phn. Pion. Zatl. N.8in koblenz” and features a vivid polychromatic depiction of 2 soldiers around a basket of arms & equipment with a collar tab that has the number “8” on it. The other side depicts various scenes of a soldier’s life, along with him kissing his wife. CONDITION: light wear overall. 2) Flask measures approx. 7 1/2" x 5” and has an eagle finial atop its screw-on metal cap. It has a red, black & white suspension rope and is decorated on both sides. One side depicts scenes from a soldier’s life, along with a central wreath surrounding the number “128”. The other side reads “Res. Krese” with a lengthy inscription following and depicts a soldier riding away from home on a horse. CONDITION: light wear overall. 3) Flask measures approx. 8 1/4" x 5 1/2” and has an eagle finial on its screw-on pewter cap. It has a red, black & white suspension rope and is decorated on both sides. One side is painted in red & white enamel with a lengthy inscription, which includes the words “Reservist. Gefrieter Boberg. Inftr. Regt. Blankenburg 97 99”. Separately attached to the front of the canteen is a button with the number “5”, two rank pips & the gilded brass number “165”. The other side depicts 2 soldiers shaking hands over a cutout heart that reveals the inner flask. Below the heart is another lengthy inscription. CONDITION: light to moderate wear overall, and the suspension rope is a bit faded. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18600/BF). $400-600.
