Lot of Four: Three Indian Axes & a European Axe: (1) Indian ''Bullova'' axe from the Chota Nagpur area of India, with a 12'' wide moustache-shaped blade, hand-forged eyelet for mounting, and a 33-1/2'' bamboo shaft. There are some simple carved decorations at the mid section of the axe head. Condition is good, the blade having a dark rust patina with pitting overall. There are a few edge nicks to the blade. Bamboo shaft shows age darkening and use. (2) All-steel Indo/Persian piece with a 7'' crescent-shaped blade and hammer head on the back side, decorated with carved floral scenes. Shaft is spiral fluted in three areas of the grip with a rounded pommel on top and bottom. OAL is 27''. Condition is good, with heavy rust pitting overall the axe head and the shaft, cleaned in the distant past, now with a darker patina. (3) All-steel Indian piece with a four-pointed flat blade, inlaid with silver niello type decorations. Blade is 6'' long and 5'' wide. Shaft is smooth round steel about 5/8'' in dia. There is a four-sided spike point on the top of the shaft, and a round pommel at the bottom. (4) Large curved blade adz type axe with a hammer feature on the back side. The 8-1/2'' blade has a key hole feature in the center and appears to be blacksmith forged. The large wood handle is about 20'' in length. Condition is fair with a large chip out of the top edge of the blade. The surface of the blade is heavily pitted and has a scaly rust patina overall. Wood shaft show age and use. Est.: $300-$600/lot.
