3 LARGE ROUND BALL GANG MOLDS & 1 MINI BALL MOLD.
1) A large iron 35 shot gang mold for round balls of various calibers ranging from about 71 cal. to 36 cal. This hand forged 2 piece mold has a large oval ring on one handle to secure the mold closed. The mold is marked on one side "MAR, ‘de SOTO mef, de". CONDITION: mold operates well & freely. Iron has a dark brown, ancient patina. 2) A large brass 25 shot gang mold for round balls of various calibers ranging from about 69 cal. to 30 cal. This hand made 2 piece mold is joined in the middle with a large iron rivet. The top of the mold has 2 iron pins to facilitate a tight fit. CONDITION: mold operates well & moves freely. Brass has a deep, mellow mustard patina. One of the long brass handles appears to have been broken during the mold's useful life and has a very effective period repair. 3) A large brass & iron 23 shot gang mold for round balls of various calibers ranging from about 50 cal. to 25 cal. This hand made 2 piece mold features iron handles with iron brackets attached to a 2 piece brass mold. The handles are joined in the center with a single flush rivet. 3 Brass pins help align & secure the mold for pouring. CONDITION: mold operates well & moves relatively freely. Brass has a very dark patina as does the iron. 4) A single cavity, iron mini ball mold for what is commonly termed a "picket bullet". The mold appears to be for a 45 cal. bullet with a concave base. The front of the mold forms a sprue trimmer. The mold handles are stamped "Old Reliable" & "467 Cal. 45 420 Sharps Rifle Co T Conn". CONDITION: mold appears to have had an oxidized finish with light pitting, but has been over cleaned to nearly bright. Mold operates well. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor.
