3 US INDIAN WAR ERA BELTS & 1 BRITISH IMPORT

BELT & KNIFE.
1) PRAIRIE BELT. An M1876 US prairie belt in rare 50 cal. size. Belt is standard, heavy canvas w/ brass buckle & leather tongue on the end. All of these prairie belts are desirable but the 50 cal. example is nearly impossible to find. The end of the leather tongue is clearly marked, “WATERVLIET ARSENAL 1864” w/ inspector’s marks on each side of the tip. CONDITION: belt shows light to moderate wear & obviously has spent several years in the field. There is wear & minor losses to the top edge of several cartridge loops. Leather remains strong & pliable.
2) MODIFIED CARTRIDGE BELT. This interesting belt utilizes a blue, cotton web cartridge belt that appears to be of 45-70 cal. The web belt buckles have been removed, then a leather tongue & brass buckle, similar to a prairie belt, has been professionally stitched to the ends of the web belt. This work appears to have been done at an arsenal or lg. military post. The leather is unmarked except for a sm. “38” stamped over a larger “32”. CONDITION: belt shows light to moderate wear w/ some fading to blue webbing. Leather remains strong.
3) ARTILLERY. A good example of an M1874 Light Artillery saber belt & buckle. Buckle is standard rectangular w/ “US” in oval in the center. Belt is marked, “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL” w/ inspector’s marks & a “42” stamp. Both saber straps are present but longest strap is missing its end swivel. CONDITION: belt shows moderate wear but leather remains strong. (02-15753(3)/BF).
4) BRITISH. A nice example of an 1860-80 British Volunteers waist belt w/ interlocking 2 piece buckle. Buckle has a plain tongue w/ a decorated wreath. Leather is brown w/ 2 keeper loops. There is a knife w/ scabbard attached to the belt. Knife features a stag handle & is marked, “JOSEPH ROGERS & SONS CUTLERS TO HER MAJESTY”. Leather sheath is dark brown & appears to be homemade. CONDITION: belt shows light to moderate wear. Knife shows heavy use but is undamaged. (02-15758 /BF). $1,300-1,600.
