3 WWI GERMAN REGIMENTAL CANTEENS.
1) A tin covered glass canteen with a cutout circle in the center of one side showing a lengthy German inscription. Upon looking through the circle, you are shown a scene of a soldier consoling his wife. The opposite side has a brass running horse over a spray of arms over a single epaulette. There is also a lengthy German inscription on this side. The canteen has a metal cap/cup with an eagle finial. There is a twisted 3-color suspension cord around the canteen. CONDITION: canteen shows light wear with minor areas of paint loss. The twisted cord is quite dirty and lightly faded. 2) A tin covered glass canteen with a spray of arms on one side with the inscription "Reservist. Res Tolle Comp. Inftr. Rgt. No97." with surrounding wreath. The opposite side has a scene depicting soldiers on guard near a railway station. The canteen has a metal cap/cup. There is a twisted 3-color suspension cord around the canteen. CONDITION: canteen shows light wear with very minor fading to the paint. The twisted cord remains bright. 3) A tin covered glass canteen with a cutout heart in the center of one side showing various scenes of Naval life on shore with 2 ships represented. Upon looking through the heart, you view a sailor greeting his wife. The opposite side has a Naval battle flag, a small picture of an officer, and a small image of a ship, along with arms and a German inscription. The canteen has a metal cap/cup. There is a twisted 3-color suspension cord around the canteen. There appears to be a section of cap tally that reads "HAMBURG" sewn to the suspension cord. CONDITION: canteen shows light wear with minor areas of paint loss. The twisted cord is a bit faded. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18653/BF). $400-600.
