PAINTED MOTIFS.
1) This attractive helmet is painted in a camouflage motif utilizing the colors green, blue, brown, pink, yellow, white & dark brown. The front has an arched white 6" panel painted with a firing WWI tank with shell bursts. The rear of the helmet has a white 6" panel with a cartoon like vignette of a doctor inoculating a soldier with "DOPE" under the heading "A SHOT OF TRIPPLE SIX". The interior rim is painted in yellow "LT. ALVIN R. KERR M.C. - 5TH CORPS ARTILLERY PK. -". Black liner & chinstrap. CONDITION: helmet shows light to moderate wear. Colors remain crisp. Chinstrap shows heavy wear.
2) A subdued camouflage pattern covers the outside of this helmet utilizing tan, green & brick colored paint with black dividing lines. There are also grass like black painted images extending from the border areas. In an arch at the front of the helmet is painted "A.E.F. U.S.A. 1918". Black liner with a partial chinstrap. CONDITION: paint has darkened somewhat. Underside of the helmet has an oxidized finish. Liner is present but chinstrap shows just a few remains.
3) An exceptionally interesting & entertaining M17 painted helmet. The majority of the colors used are light green, dark green, red, white & black. The top of the helmet shows 2 roosters fighting under a guidon. The front has a large 8" spread winged American eagle backed by American flags. The sides show English & French patriotic shields along with various caricatures including an unflattering image of a French officer. The rear of the helmet has a village scene. The front rim reads "1917-A.E.F. 18-19". There is much more painted on this helmet. Please see images of lot. Black leather liner with brown leather chinstrap.
