1) V-44. Overall length: 14 1/8”. Blade length: 9 3/8”. A nice example of the V-44 survival knife by Case. The bowie style blade has 2 narrow fullers at the top of each side. Blade is marked horizontally at the ricasso, “CASE XX”. Brass crossguard. Black composite 1 piece grip w/ 3 aluminum rivets on each side. Brown leather sheath. CONDITION: blade has a lightly mottled medium gray finish w/ no evidence of sharpening. Grip & sheath show light wear. 2) V-44 STYLE. Overall length: 14 3/4”. Blade length: 10”. A very good example of the V-44 style Chindit survival knife likely Indian made. The bowie style blade has 2 narrow fullers at the top of each side. Blade is unmarked. Lg. brass flat crossguard. 2 Piece wooden grip w/ 3 cut in rings & eagle form pommel. Grip has 3 iron rivets securing the 2 pieces. Heavy brown leather sheath w/ pebbled finish. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish w/ evidence of sharpening. Grip has a crack on 1 side of the eagle’s head. Sheath shows light to moderate overall wear. 3) V-44 STYLE. Overall length: 14 3/4”. Blade length: 9 3/8”. An interesting variation of a V-44 style fighting knife likely made in Australia. The flat bowie style blade has a 3 1/2" false edge at the top of the point. Aluminum crossguard. 2 Piece wood grip w/ 2 iron rivets. Brown leather sheath. CONDITION: blade has a cleaned light gray finish w/ evidence of sharpening. Grip & sheath show light wear. PROVENANCE: Collection of Roger Ballard. (02-14709-10/BF). $800-1,200.
