328 #SLA-28 “Hunting the Hard Way” Autographed by Howard Hill
•This donated hardback book, Hunting the Hard Way by Howard Hill, is an AUTOGRAPHED second edition printing. It was published
in 1956 by Wilcox and Follett Company.
•On page 160 it references with photograph, “Hill and the only specimen of true Bighorn ever killed by a white man with bow and arrow.”
•It is in fair condition and includes a dust jacket with very notable wear.
•Howard Hill was an expert bowman in the early 1930s through the 1950s. He was often introduced as “The World’s Greatest Archer”.
And as a bowhunter he killed over 2,000 animals with his longbow, including a 10,000-pound African bull elephant, “becoming the first
white man to kill such an animal with an arrow”.
•Hill also served as a supporting actor, trick-shot performer, and technical adviser on archery for Hollywood shorts and feature films. While
performing in the role of an archer in The Adventures of Robin Hood (starring Errol Flynn), he made the famous “splitting-thearrow” shot where Robin Hood shoots an arrow spliiting his competitor’s arrow already embedded in a distant target.
