4 KNIVES OF THE 19TH CENTURY.
1) BELT KNIFE. Knife itself measures 8 7/8" with a 5" blade. The blade is unmarked and has a 2" false edge. Plain elliptical iron guard. 2 Piece carved antler grip secured by 2 brass rivets. An early leather sheath is included. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina with areas of pitting. Hilt shows wear but is undamaged. Sheath shows significant wear, but is complete. 2) BELT KNIFE. The knife itself is 7 1/2" in length with a 3 13/16" skinning type blade. The blade is marked at the ricasso, “HIBBARD SPENCER BARTLETT & CO”. Iron elliptical guard. 2 Piece carved antler grips secured by 2 brass rivets. A leather sheath is included. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with areas of discoloration & scratches from cleaning. Hilt is undamaged. Sheath shows light wear. 3) SIDE KNIFE. This side knife or carving knife measures 12 1/2" in length with an 8 1/2" blade. The blade is marked, “GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT PRUSSIA”. Steel guard with 2 piece wood grip attached with 2 brass rivets has a pewter crown attached to one of the grips. No sheath. CONDITION: blade shows evidence of heavy use & sharpening. 4) SIDE KNIFE. This side knife or carving knife measures 11" in length with an 6 1/4" blade. The blade is marked, “GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT PRUSSIA”. Steel guard with 2 piece wood grip attached with 2 brass rivets has a pewter crown attached to one of the grips. No sheath. CONDITION: blade shows evidence of heavy sharpening reducing the profile of the blade. The grip shows moderate wear. (02-19749/BF). $200-400.
