PERIOD OFFICER'S INFANTRY HAT INSIGNIA. 1) M1872 militia shako with a Civil War period infantry horn on the front and infantry horn side buttons. The label is from Baker & McKenney. CONDITION: poor with breaks & repairs. 2) M1872 militia shako with a 24th New York National Guard front plate & crossed rifles side buttons. The label is from Baker & McKenney. CONDITION: fair with losses & heat damage. 3) M1881 militia spike helmet with a front plate for the 7th New York National Guard with crossed rifles side buttons & a spike top. Label is from J.H. McKenney. CONDITION: very good with expected wear & minor staining. 4) This is likely a foreign military kepi of the 1880 period made over to resemble an American Civil War officer's cap. There is a reproduction infantry horn on the top of the hat with a central number "2" and a letter "K" is affixed to the front of the cap. CONDITION: moderate to heavy wear throughout. 5) A Civil War period gold bullion on velvet officer's infantry horn with the number "143" in false embroidered numbers in the center. Both clips are on the reverse. CONDITION: light wear overall with some loss of nap near the base of the insignia. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor. (02-19909/BF). $500-700.
