1) V-44. Overall length: 14”. Blade length: 9 1/8”. An example of the V-44 survival knife by Collins & Co. The bowie style blade has 2 narrow fullers at the top of each side. Blade is marked near the ricasso, “COLLINS & CO (arm & hammer) LEGITIMUS MADE IN U.S.A. NO. 18”. Brass crossguard. Black plastic 2 piece grip w/ 5 brass rivets on each side. No sheath. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray somewhat mottled patina w/ evidence of sharpening. Grip has major chipping near the pommel. 2) V-44. Overall length: 13 7/8”. Blade length: 9 3/8”. A good example of the V-44 survival knife by Collins & Co. The bowie style blade has 2 narrow fullers at the top of each side. Blade is marked near the ricasso, “COLLINS & CO (arm & hammer) LEGITIMUS MADE IN U.S.A. NO. 18”. Brass crossguard. Black plastic 2 piece grip w/ 5 brass rivets on each side. Brown leather tooled sheath marked on the front, “COLLINS & CO (arm & hammer) LEGITIMUS”. The sheath is also stamped “13” on the front. Scratched into the reverse of the scabbard are the initials, “W.E.B.”. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina w/ ample evidence of sharpening. Grip has several gouges near the pommel from hammering. Sheath shows heavy wear & the belt loop is nearly torn off. 3) V-44. Overall length:14 1/2". Blade length: 9 1/2". A very fine example of a V-44 survival knife by Kinfolks Inc. The bowie style blade has 2 narrow fullers at the top of each side. Blade is marked horizontally near the ricasso, “Kinfolks INC.”. Brass crossguard. 1 Piece black plastic grip w/ 3 aluminum rivets on each side. Brown leather sheath. CONDITION: blade is in exceptional condition showing the slightest sharpening scratches. Grip shows very light wear. Sheath shows light wear. 4) V-44 STYLE. Overall length: 15 3/8”. Blade length: 11”. A very interesting USMC fighting knife of WWII. Bowie style blade is marked midway up the flat, “M.S.LTD.(broad arrow)1945 AF0100”. Brass crossguard stamped, “WM JONES”. 2 Piece wood grip w/ 4 screws attaching the grip. Camouflage canvas scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish w/ evidence of sharpening. Grip shows light wear. Scabbard also shows light wear. PROVENANCE: Collection of Roger Ballard. (02-14709-12/BF). $1,000-1,350.
