ORDER OF THE GERMAN EAGLE 5TH CLASS.
1) ORDER OF THE GERMAN EAGLE. A stunning example of an Order of the German Eagle, 5th Class with swords by Godet of Berlin as indicated by the “900 21” on the suspension ring. The order features a white enamel maltese cross with crossed swords at the center. Each gap in the maltese cross is occupied by a gilded German eagle & white enamel highlighted Party symbol. Original red, white & black ribbon with suspension pin on the reverse. Medal is housed in its original red leather presentation case. Interior is black velvet with a white silk pillow in the top that reads, “Deutscher Adlerorden V. Klasse mit Schwertern”. CONDITION: white enamel cross is perfect except for the smallest chip (no loss of enamel) on the top left front of the cross. Ribbon shows no notable wear. Case shows scattered scuffing with a minor loss of leather on the base.
2) GOLD MOTHER’S CROSS. A very fine Mother’s Cross in gold with a 13 1/2" blue & white striped ribbon attached. Cross has a gold finish with blue & white enamel on the front. The reverse has the date “16. Dezember 1938” & a simulated signature of Adolf Hitler. Medal is housed in its original blue leather presentation case. Interior is cream colored velvet with a cream colored silk pillow in the top marked, “ZIEMER & SOHNE OBERSTEIN”. CONDITION: cross shows light wear overall with no enamel damage. Case shows minimal wear.
3) 40 YEAR FAITHFUL SERVICE MEDAL. A nice example of a 40 Year Party Faithful Service medal in gold with a central black enamel Party symbol. Original cornflower blue ribbon with original suspension pin on the reverse. Medal is housed in its original red leather presentation case. CONDITION: medal shows very light overall wear as does the presentation case.
4) WAR MERIT CROSS 1ST CLASS. A classic example of a 1st Class War Merit Cross in silver marked on the reverse “L/11” indicating mfg. by Wilhelm Deumer of Ludenscheid. The medal is housed in an original black leatherette box marked on the inside pillow, “LDO”. CONDITION: cross shows some tarnish & minor loss of finish on the front.
5) KREIGSMARINE COASTAL ARTILLERY BADGE. A well executed example of a Kreigsmarine Coast Artillery badge marked on the reverse, “FEC . OTTO PLACZEK . BERLIN AUSF. C.E. JUNKER BERLIN”. Badge appears to have a gilded bronze finish with a plated silvered pin. Badge is housed in its original black leatherette case marked on the top, “Marina Artillerie = Abzeichen”. CONDITION: badge shows beautiful details on the front. The hook on the reverse has been resoldered obliterating a sm. portion of the marking. Box shows very minor scuffs with some discoloration to the interior pillow. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-16016/BF). $1,200-1,500.
