5 FOREIGN SWORDS.
1) GERMAN. Overall length: 38". Blade length: 31 1/4". A Germanic court sword with a blade that has a single fuller and is etched over the first 14" with various military, political & foliate devices, including a German eagle. Gilded brass hilt with one folding guard. Decorated, urn-shaped pommel and wire-wrapped grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows staining, particularly near the hilt. Hilt shows traces of original gilding. Folding grip functions well. Scabbard is tight from shrinkage but remains solid. 2) GERMAN. Overall length: 36 1/2". Blade length: 30 1/2". A Germanic court sword that has 3 facets on each side of the blade with etching over the first 14". Etching includes patriotic & foliate motifs. Gilded brass hilt with a stationary double kidney guard. Decorated, urn-shaped pommel and mother of pearl 2-panel grips. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows minor staining near the tip. Hilt retains traces of original gilding. Scabbard is broken near the tip with a small section missing and has a tape repair 10" down from the throat. 3) GERMAN. Overall length: 35". Blade length: 29 1/2". An imperial infantry sword with a plain blade having a single medium fuller. Ricasso is marked "(knight's head) WKC". Plain polished steel hilt with downturned quillon and rounded languets. Black composite grip with wire wrap. Plated scabbard. CONDITION: the sword itself shows very light wear, however the scabbard shows wear, dents and many, many dings on the edge, likely from a child's swordfight. 4) GERMAN. Overall length: 27". Blade length: 19 1/4". This hunting association/forestry sword has a flat blade etched over the first 11 1/2" with various patriotic & foliate motifs, including the bust of a mustached gentleman and a large German eagle with a ribbon that reads "DEUTSCHLAND UBERALLES IN DER WELT." Gilded brass hilt with scallop shell guard & deer hoof quillons. 1-Piece antler grip with 3 acorns. Brass pommel cap with acorn finial. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish. Hilt shows normal wear. Scabbard is flaked but solid. 5) JAPANESE. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 33". An Army dress saber with a plain blade that has a single medium fuller. Gilded brass hilt with a pierced guard & decorated pommel. The backstrap has 10-petal cherry blossoms, indicating Army use. Wire-wrapped composite grip. Plated scabbard. CONDITION: sword shows very light wear overall. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (02-19734-4/BF). $600-900.
