5 JAPANESE KATANA & WAKIZASHI.

1) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 30 1/2". Blade length: 21". Blade has an irregular hamon. There is a 2 piece gilded & silvered habaki. A single seppa is mounted above & below the tsuba. Iron tsuba decorated with a mountainous scene & brass inlays. Nakago has a 6 character signature with a single mekugi-ana. Beautifully articulated fuchi. Kashira is missing. Partial white same with black tsuka-ito. Black painted wood saya may be a replacement. CONDITION: blade has a very good polish with a couple of very tiny nicks to the blade. Tsuba has oxidation. Tsuka has moderate to heavy wear. Saya is solid.
2) KATANA. Overall length: 36 3/4". Blade length: 26". Blade has a slightly irregular wavy hamon & a copper habaki. There is 1 seppa above & below the replacement aluminum tsuba. Unsigned nakago with 2 mekugi-ana. Tsuka has matching fuchi & kashira with a faded black tsuka-ito. Differing menuki, one appears to have 3 faces, the other may be a cricket. No apparent same but there is blue painted wood where the same normally is. Saya is black painted wood. CONDITION: blade has some oxidized staining but the hamon is still apparent. There is one tiny nick to the edge. The tsuka shows moderate overall wear. Saya remains solid.
3) KATANA. Overall length: 37". Blade length: 26". Blade has an irregular wavy hamon & a brass habaki. There are 2 seppa, but no tsuba. Nakago has an 8 character signature on both sides & one side also has a white painted signature. There is a single mekugi-ana. Matching fuchi & kabuto-gane. White same with olive green tsuka ito. Matching cherry blossom menuki. The saya is black painted wood covered in leather. CONDITION: blade is in fine condition but in need of a polishing. Tsuka shows light to moderate wear with the kabuto-gane showing heavy wear. Saya appears solid but leather covering is deteriorated.
4) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 30 1/2". Blade length: 22 3/8". Blade has no perceptible hamon likely due to improper polishing. Copper habaki. A single seppa is mounted above & below the tsuba. Small iron tsuba with incised decoration & brass/copper inlaid birds. Unsigned nakago with a single mekugi-ano. Tsuka has matching fuchi & kashira with a leather tsuka-ito. Black same has an iron 3 circle menuki with each circle having a brass leaf decoration. Black painted saya. CONDITION: blade was improperly polished sometime during its life & also has a few nicks to the edge. Tsuka shows light to moderate overall wear. Saya remains solid.
5) WAKIZASHI. Overall length: 31 3/8". Blade length: 21". Blade has a barely perceptible irregular hamon. No habaki. Unsigned nakago with 2 mekugi-ana. No seppa or tsuba. Brass & copper inlaid fuchi but no kashira. Tsuka is replaced with a modern version. Saya is black painted wood. CONDITION: blade has a gray mottled patina with several minor nicks to the edge. Saya remains strong but shows moderate to heavy wear. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Jack Verret Sr. (02-16485/BF). $1,400-2,200.
