1 CONFEDERATE. 1) A Confederate percussion lock for a Fayetteville rifle. The lockplate is dated "1863" behind the hammer. In front of the hammer is a spread-wing American eagle along with "FAYETTEVILLE". The hammer does not appear to be original to the lock but has a complimentary patina. The interior of the lock is unmarked except for a "7" at the mid-point of the bridle. CONDITION: lock has a medium gray overall patina with no evidence of pitting. Lock appears fully functional. 2) A percussion conversion lock for a Harpers Ferry musket. The lockplate is marked "HARPERS FERRY 182_" in back of the hammer. There is a droop-wing American eagle above "US" in front of the hammer. There are numerous letter marks on the interior of the lock. CONDITION: lock has a dark gray, lightly pitted patina and appears to operate well. 3) A percussion lock for a M1855 Springfield musket utilizing the Maynard tape priming system. The lock is marked "1859" in back of the hammer, and "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" at the front of the lock. The Maynard primer door is marked with a large spread-wing American eagle. The interior of the lock has an "S" stamped above the main spring. CONDITION: lock has a light gray overall patina and appears to function properly. The primer door is missing its hinge pin and is currently held on with a bent straight pin. 4) A percussion lock for a M1861 Contract rifle musket. The lock plate is stamped "1862" behind the hammer and "L.G & Y. WINDSOR-VT." in front of the hammer. The interior of the lock is stamped "K" on the sear and "W" on the inside of the hammer. CONDITION: lock has a light gray finish with no pitting. Lock appears to function properly. 5) An excavated partial lock & cock for a British trade musket. The name "WILSON" can be seen at the rear of the lock. CONDITION: lock has heavy pitting and does not function. 6) A partial excavated lock for a musket utilizing the Maynard tape primer system. Lock has a white painted mark on the inside that reads "WILDERNESS, VA". CONDITION: lock has a heavy pitted, excavated patina. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B. Taylor.
