BREECH LOADING BY STEVEN GRANT USING SIDE LEVER ACTION. Cal. 8 Bore. NSN. Bbl. 31 3/8" Skelp twist, engraved "Converted by Stephen Grant 67 St. Jamese's Street. London" on raised breech section. Bottom of bbl. stamped w/ London black powder proofs for 7 Bore, forcing cone is very slight. Breech pivot & locking system is brazed on in shoe lump fashion. Case hardened side lever action w/ lever on right side is fitted w/ front spring lock possibly sourced from original muzzleloader as scroll engraving is different from that on remainder of gun. It is engraved "Converted by S. Grant". New action is nicely filed & engraved w/ 80% coverage very well cut open shaded scroll. Blued trigger guard is also scroll engraved, no S# is present. well figured & nicely marbled European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 1/4" over black "Old English" pad on 3/4" lengthening piece. Point pattern checkering is at grip & a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter forend has horn tip, is near fully checkered & has Anson type release. MEASUREMENTS: BARREL: bore diameter: at muzzle: .855", appears muzzle has been swaged down to produce choke. Min. Wall Thickness: .045". CONDITION: good as refurbished. Bbl. retaining approx. 70% of fine brown probably done at time of conversion. Action retains traces of original color. Stocks professionally refinished & checkering nicely recut. Bore appears very good, but is dirty. Action is tight. Lock fine. (01-19508/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,500.
