INTRIGUING & INFORMATIVE PHOTOGRAPHS.
This group contains 9 WWII German photo albums with a huge variety of photographs relating to German soldiers & civilians, as well as the countryside & conquered lands of WWII. Below are listed the albums with a brief summary of contents & a count of photos.
1) 209 Photos that appear to be primarily taken during 1940 & 1941 of such places as Rotterdam, Dunkirk, Calais, Bulgaria & more. Many photos include high ranking German officers wearing the Knight’s Cross.
2) 173 Photos dating from 1943 until the summer of 1944. The owner of the album appears to have been attached to Parachute Panzer Division "Hermann Goring". There are many pictures of high ranking German officers along with scenic & alpine views & several photos of Sicily. There are photos of Germans in the field, as well as in town & city venues. Several varieties of uniforms are pictured.
3) 62 Photos belonging to a member of a panzer grenadier regiment. Most photos appear to be of high ranking German officers & many are identified. There are photos of airplanes in flight, as well as German light & heavy artillery. There are also hunting scenes & band scenes.
4) 183 Photos from 1936 to 1939. There are numerous NSKK photos, lg. format photos of rallies & parades & several original photos of Hitler & his staff. There is an interesting series of boar hunting photos & a lg. variety of photos of Germans in the field, some in the aftermath of battle including German graves.
5) 83 Photos dating from the late 1920s. Many photographs appear to deal with German military equestrians & their travels to riding competitions.
6) 152 Photos that date from the early to mid 1920s showing many German officers that appear to be involved with riding competitions. There are also photos of German soldiers deploying pontoon bridges & other actions in the field including aircraft.
7) 227 Photos dating from before WWI to the Freikorps period. This album includes photos showing cadets in military school going & subsequent service in WWI with many field & town scenes. There are autographed photos of officers including a Pour le Merite winner. There are numerous photos of the officer’s corps in a variety of uniforms, equestrian & hunt club pictures. There are several photos of cavalry units culminating with a photo of a lg. Freikorps cavalry unit in a square dated 1924.
8) 40 Photos in a sm. album belonging to Oberst Schmalz of the Herman Goring Division. There are many photos of this officer visiting the Turkish Infantry Division stationed in Crispina, Italy in May 1944. There are also many Italian scenes including shoreline defense emplacements.
9) 76 Photos in a sm. album dating from 1934 to 1936. Photos show German military soldiers & equipment throughout Germany along with an interesting photo of the Berlin Olympics of 1936.
10) A lg. group of loose German military photographs, mostly relating to German soldier of WWII. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a book titled, “Fallschirmpanzerkorps Herman Goring” & photocopies of pertinent information about Oberst Wilhelm Schmalz. CONDITION: nearly all photos are in fine condition with clear images & no damage. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-15998/BF). $2,000-2,600.
