The broad 34.5& #34; blade is a full 1.75& #34; wide at the forte. Three short fullers adorn the blade with two broader abbreviated ones at forte. The three fullers are engraved with initials “HMN” and other cabalistic letters. Baskethilt with saltires is filed and pierced with hearts and roundels in the classic Highland manner. Original domed pommel with decorative cut work. The wood grip covered in high grade black shagreen. The sword appears to be homogenous. Condition is patinated with light corrosion and cleaned metal surfaces but generally very good for a Scottish broadsword of this early period. This broadsword is a rare survival and should not be confused with the far more common post Culloden baskethilts. This is a real fighting sword and not a piece of Scottish revival regalia or one made for a British Highland regiment.
