The 42& #34; blade of flattened hexagonal cross section with narrow central fuller, stamped “IHS” on each side with six punch marks. The swept hilt with steel wire wrapped wood grip surmounted by “Turk’s heads”. Ovoid pommel and guard with half knucklebow. The pommel, quillions, loop-guards, and side rings pierced through and chiseled with flowerhead, mythical serpentine creatures, and armed human heroes on horseback of fine quality throughout. Condition is fine overall with detail crisp and the blade is clean and smooth with only very minor corrosion at forte. 49& #34; overall length. This is an outstanding example of a homogenous, fully chiseled and pierced, rare half knucklebow hilt rapier and is truly museum worthy in every respect.
