WSF lost an icon...a legend in July of 2015. “Red” killed his first ram, a Stone’s in 1976 and somehow heard about this “FNAWS” bunch! Red became part of the FNAWS Board of Directors in 1981 and that same year organized the Texas Bighorn Society. Dr. Duke became the President of FNAWS in 1986. In the “Putting Sheep on the Mountain” book published in 1999, Dr. “Red” Duke was asked “If you were talking to someone in the next millennium about FNAWS, what’s the message you want to share?” He replied, “You must take care of the habitat. The sheep will take care of themselves. The most important thing we can do to devise techniques to prevent the multiple division of large ranges in the foothills of their native wild sheep ranges. To get young people involved with FNAWS, take them out in the field.” Words that still ring true today.

Now 30 years since he was President of FNAWS (WSF) his legend will live on. WSF Staff and Board of Directors will honor Dr. “Red” Duke with a bronze of his famous cowboy hat he was notorious of wearing and auctioning it off in the early 2000’s. Ron and Marlys Schauer have generously re-donated “Reds” cowboy hat to help raise money as a tribute to a man of vision, passion and commitment to the purpose and mission of “Putting and Keeping Sheep on the Mountain!”

The winning bidder of this item will received a bronzed replica of Dr. “Red” Duke’s hat and a certificate by Studde Brothers to have a custom hat made of their own. The original hat will remain at WSF headquarters.
