Overall, the revolver is in excellent condition. mechanics: the action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. box paperwork and accessories: this revolver comes with a loading lever. our assessment: commencing in 1836 in paterson, nj began manufacturing cap and ball revolvers. In 1839 a loading lever was added to aid in loading of the firearm with the cylinder in place. An average of only 6 firearms per week were produced until the company went bankrupt in 1841. A small number went out to the texas rangers and were used in various battles with the comanche and other local tribes. Their increased volume of firepower led to notable victories. The success of the revolver design coupled with the weaknesses of the paterson design led to the development and widespread issue of the 1847 walker colt which the rangers made famous. this replica of the 1836 paterson . 36 cal is a beautiful example of one of the earliest revolvers to see success. This particular example is pictured in john taffins book p. 108 - cowboy shooting; p. 182 single act. 6 guns; & p. 8&9 of big bore handguns.
