PHOTOGRAPHS. George Washington Storer (1789-1864) was a lifelong US Naval Officer serving on board many vessels including USS Constitution, USS Constellation, USS Congress & USS Independence. Much of his official Naval correspondence & ephemera was maintained by his family for many years & much has been donated to various institutions & sold by various descendants who inherited portions. This group along w/ the previous lot, Jacob Storer’s Lt. Col.’s coat, was part of this archive. Included in this grouping is a manuscript copy of admiral Storer’s 1864 last will & testimony, which states he wanted his important papers preserved by his son Jacob. Included in this grouping are a pair of oval folio albumen portraits of Admiral Storer & his wife. The images measure 12x9" in mats. There is a lg. framed oval image about 8x6" showing a full standing view of a company grade officer, signed “G. Greiling / Artist / Detroit”, no doubt part of the Storer family. There are additional photographs of his granddaughter Faith, 2 pictures of daughter Mary Washington (Mrs. Albert Jones), son Jacob, 2 pictures of Naval Officer Lt. D. Taylor, 2 images of Reverend Joseph Blaier Breed, unidentified images, several antebellum family letters, numerous newspaper clippings. Also included is a wonderful homemade child’s one-piece jumper which is antebellum or earlier, made w/ several different cotton & silk components. This jumper had at one time about 10 buttons, which are all removed. CONDITION: photographs are overall very good, a few damaged as seen in photos, the lg. albumens of Admiral & Mrs. Storer & unidentified soldier are very good to fine. Good contrast, light acid burn.
