REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 7980. Bbl. 7 1/2" w/ blade sight. 6 Shot fluted cyl. Bullseye ejector head. Left side of frame is stamped "US". Trigger guard below S# is stamped "A" referring to principle sub inspector Orville W. Ainsworth. Cyl. slot has inspectors mark "C". Cyl. has "P" inspectors mark w/ both "S" & "P" on rear surface. Bottom of bbl. is marked w' "P" & "A" inspection marks, "C" is found underneath ejector housing. Frame, grip straps, bbl. & cyl. have matching numbers. 1 Piece walnut grips, left panel has lightly visible "OWA" Ainsworth cartouche. Approx. 12,500 early revolvers were inspected by Ainsworth from July 23, 1873 -November 7, 1874. This revolver was mfg. 1874. CONDITION: metal has cleaned gray appearance showing scattered surface corrosion on the bbl. Grips are sanded & slightly undersize w/ reapplied oil finish. Action is in time, some action screws are replacement. Bore retains sharp rifling. (01-21629/DS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-9,000.
