Alberta has long had a reputation for maintaining the healthiest and most robust Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep populations in the world! If you know trophy bighorn sheep, you know Alberta; our genetics are second to none! That’s why Alberta, in the name of conservation, has shared over 700 of our sheep with 11 states and one province over the past few decades.

An Alberta ram held the world record for 89 years before breaking its own record in 2000 and then again in 2015; Alberta still boasts nine of the top 25 bighorn sheep ever taken!

Still capable of producing 200-inch-plus rams, this highly coveted Alberta’s Minister's Special License got even better in 2022! With encouragement from the Alberta Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation and help from the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS), this permit is open to YEAR-ROUND HUNTING !

This Minister’s Special Licence allows the buyer an unprecedented opportunity to hunt at the best possible times, with any weapon, extending their chances to a full 365 days of unparalleled possibilities. Don't miss your chance to bid on this world-class hunt with its new and improved conditions.

LICENCE CONDITIONS
The purchaser of this licence will be authorized to hunt one (1) bighorn sheep anytime between September 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025. This hunt can occur in any Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) where a bighorn sheep season exists, even if the season for bighorn sheep is currently closed in that WMU. The purchaser will be able to select their weapon of choice, as there is no requirement to use archery gear during the archery season or a rifle during the rifle season. This licence does not authorize hunting in any location where hunting is prohibited as outlined in the Wildlife Regulation and the Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations.

*Prior to hunting, the holder of the Minister Special Licence (MSL) for bighorn sheep must notify the local Fish and Wildlife Division Office of their license and tag number, WMUs where they expect to hunt, and the dates when hunting is planned to take place.

Funds derived from the sale of this licence will be used to supporting Alberta’s understanding and management of its wildlife resources, building on historical data through various efforts related to the inventory of our big game species.

The licence cannot be resold or transferred. The buyer can be an Alberta resident, a non-resident, or non-resident alien. If the licence holder is a non-resident or non-resident alien, they will be required to hire a licensed Alberta outfitter and be accompanied by a designated guide. To find an outfitter, the purchaser should visit the APOS website at apos.ab.ca. The cost for hiring the outfitter is not included in the sale price of the licence.

A 5% buyer’s premium will be added to the final bid price of this special permit/tag (unless prohibited by statute.) The proceeds will be dedicated to WSF Conservation Initiatives. If the winner of this item refuses to pay the premiums required, the item shall be offered to the next highest bidder for the price he/she bid.
