DOUBLE RIFLE IN CUSTOM CASE.
Cal. .475 No. 2 Nitro Express. S# 8179 (CA 1926). The 26" chopper lump barrels are fitted with quarter rib holding one standing leaf express rear sight (two folding leaves missing). Front ramp holds gold bead. Sunken mid rib is engraved ".475 No. 2, 85 Grs. Smokeless. 480 Gr. Bullet." Tops of barrels are engraved "Alexander Henry & Co. 22. Frederik Street, Edinburgh." and "Incorporated With Alex Martin & Co. Glasgow & Aberdeen." Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for the load engraved on rib. Robust case hardened Webley PHV-1 boxlock action features non automatic safety, pivoting third fastener which engages square shouldered dolls head rib extension and double triggers. Action is line border engraved and maker's name is engraved on both sides. Blued top lever, floorplate and trigger guard are also line engraved. S# is on trigger guard tang which extends to case hardened steel grip cap. Stock of lightly fiddle figured and marbled European walnut measures 14 7/8" over Silver type pad. Stock features side panels, point pattern checkering and silver oval as well as sling loop matching that screwed to Boss on bottom rib. Matching splinter forend has forward pivoting lever release. MEASUREMENTS: STOCK: DAH: approx. 2 9/16". DAC: approx. 1 3/4". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 7/8". WEIGHT: 11 lb. 1 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in custom mahogany case with brass corners. Top has small brass rectangle engraved "ALEX HENRY" ".475 DOUBLE" "R. Francis". Case is lined in green felt, bottom section has four covered compartments, covers are mahogany and have rectangular white handles. CONDITION: exceptionally fine as completely reconditioned, most likely in London. All surfaces retaining essentially all factory quality finishes. Barrels show some minor spotting toward breech ends. Action has one or two scattered marks. Stocks have a few minor marks and some light scratches, checkering recut. Bores are fine to very fine, shiny with strong rifling throughout, some minor frosting and erosion is at throats. Action is tight, barrels are on face, mechanically fine. Case is very fine.
