AMERICAN RESTOCKED LONG LAND PATTERN BROWN BESS

MUSKET. Cal. 75. NSN. The 45 1/4" tapered round bbl. does not show any proof marks. Tower marked lock with rounded plate has serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, bridled friction frizzen and feather spring with fleur-di-lis finial. Lock is double line border engraved and has royal "GR" cypher in front of cock. Period replacement stock of plain maple extends to within 3 1/2" of muzzle with brass cap and is pinned to bbl. Stock also features early style handrail comb but later slight palm swell. Brass mountings include early style buttplate with long steeple return of top tang, relief cast sideplate and trigger guard. Sling loops are at front of trigger guard and midway along bbl. Steel ramrod mounts through large cast front pipe, beaded mid pipe and matching thimble. Right side of butt is stamped "M". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: musket comes with correct style triangular bayonet with 16" blade which fits musket quite well. CONDITION: good, iron parts exhibiting even dark brown patina with some scattered pitting. Stock has what appears to be an old refinish with edges rounded. Brass, once cleaned, is nicely toned. Front 26" of stock is a replacement. There are old cracks in butt that also show repairs. Bore is pitted. Lock is operable. Bayonet is cleaned to pewter highlights with scattered pitting overall. (01-21454/MGM). ANTIQUE. $5,000-8,000.
