AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR JAEGER BIG BORE RIFLE.
Cal. 70. NSN. 43 1/4" Overall. Bbl. 27 3/4" oct. swamped w/ dovetailed front & rear sights, iron mounted, the fan shaped finials on buttplate & trigger guard are reminiscent of some excavated from pre-revolution Indian sites. Stock is very plainly made w/ no decoration other than an incised line in the short cheekpiece. This rifle has undergone substantial restoration to the wood & is a reconversion from percussion, regardless a very rare American stocked mid 18th century Jaeger military rifle. CONDITION: good as restored, lock components are replaced as is sideplate & lock screws, sling swivels are replaced, both iron half hexagonal ramrod pipes appear original though there is wood restoration above & forward of front pipe which is mostly new as is brass band. Mechanics of new mechanism are excellent. The bore has discernible rifling although heavily worn from use. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17795/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
