AN EXTRAORDINARY FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR 7 AWARD MEDAL

BAR BELONGING TO CAPTAIN FRIEDRICH HALLER. This very attractive & scarce medal bar, mounted in the Bavarian style, consists of a solid gold Bavarian Bravery medal with the initials “fm” under the bust indicating production by the Bavarian State Mint, a Bavarian Order of Military Merit 4th Class in silver & enamel with the center being gold & enamel, the 1870 2nd Class Iron Cross with “25” jubilee oak leaves on ribbon, a Prussian 1870-71 Campaign medal, a Bavarian 1866 Campaign Cross, a Bavarian 24 Year Service Cross & a Prussian Centenary medal. Captain Friedrich Holler served with distinction during the Franco-Prussian War as an NCO in the Artillery. In 1879, he was promoted to Supply 2nd Lieutenant. In 1866 he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant & in 1891 he was promoted to Supply Captain. There were a very limited number of Bavarian gold Bravery medals awarded during the Franco-Prussian War. CONDITION: ribbons show extremely light wear as do most of the medals. The Bavarian Order of Merit has some minor enamel loss on 3 of the arms. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway.
