PIGEON GRADE PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 Ga. S# 38229. Bbl. 25" Nickel Steel w/ solid rib, fixed Full choke & brass bead. Early style Pigeon engraving by Angelo Stokes, who was an in house engraver for Winchester in the early 1900's. The early Pigeon grade pattern is more elaborate than the late 12-5 pattern. Upland scene on right side shows 2 pointing setters & 2 woodcock. Left side scene shows 2 pointers w/ 2 sitting & 1 flushing quail. Scenes are fully surrounded by vine type foliate scroll & fancy borders w/ heart shaped motifs. The engraving extends to upper & lower surfaces of action highlighting a vignette of a rough grouse on top of the receiver. Sm. rnd. forearm & straight grip stock of fancy black walnut w/ wrap around hand checkering having black diamonds on both sides of wrist. LOP: 13 1/8" over Win. buttplate. 1914 Mfg. CONDITION: metal retains over 95% professional reblued finish. Receiver shows scattered spots of remaining pitting, polishing was carefully accomplished to preserve the engraving as well as possible. Additional spots of pitting are found near the muzzle & along the rib on the bbl. Wood retains a dull lightly worn finish w/ light checkering wear having a sm. chip behind trigger guard tang. Bore is generally bright showing scattered sm. spots of pitting. (21-2401/DS). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
