COLT CHIEF FIREARMS DESIGNER. 1882 published “Engineer’s & Mechanics’ Pocket-Book” by Charles Hanson with dedication to Capt. John Ericsson “as a slight tribute to his genius”. Ericsson was designer of 1st screw driven US miliary frigate and the rotating gun turret of USS Monitor. Carl Ehbert (1845-1925) worked in gun industry starting with Krupp in Germany, emigrating to America in 1867 and employed by Colt engineering Gatling guns. He was involved in design of 1871 Open top, later the 1st DA with swing-out cylinder, model 1889. Ehbert designed gas operating gatling gun and later collaborated with his lifelong friend John Browning on improvements on Colt models 1900, 1902, 1905, 1909, and iconic 1911. Ehbert died in 1925 the year before John Browning.
Handbook has numerous pages annotated with inset and loose drawings, charts, and cartridge test papers. Ehbert used this manual for over 20 years as noted by dates and notes on Colt semi-auto pistols into the 20th century.
CONDITION: disbound, binding poor, not collated but appears all 674 pages intact plus the numerous added pages with detailed notes by Ehbert. (02-17793/JS).
