AND CARTRIDGE BOARD. Diamond shaped center panel depicts a mountain elk herd scene overlaid with UMC logo. Top 2 rows display 36 rimfire cartridges beginning with the diminutive BB cap on left, increasing to the .58 Springfield on the right. Below the rimfire cartridges are a display of 10 cast lead bullets on the left, 3 rounds of pinfire ammo in the center and 10 paper patched bullets on the right. Main portion exhibits 117 central fire cartridges ranging from the .22 Extra Long CF to the .58 Transf'd Musket. Lower portion shows paper shot shells and case heads on the left along with a 1" Gatling cartridge. Center of display has a 9 3/8" X 3 3/4" box displaying percussion caps, primers and gun wads. Left side shows exploder shells, friction cannon primers and brass shot shell cases. Upper headings on display board are "Rim-Fire" / circle "U" trademark / "Central Fire Pistol / Sporting and Military". Lower heading states "FACTORY: BRIDGEPORT. Conn. U.S.A." & "CARTRIDGE MACHINERY. / GOVERNMENT CONTRACTORS" followed by "STORES: NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO". Address around bottom of central scene is marked "MAJOR, KNAPP & CO. / 56 Park Place N.Y." Image size: 41 5/8" x 28 7/8". Frame size: 47 1/8" x 33 7/8". Ornate wood frame has painted outer perimeter with ornately carved inner moulding having button type frontal ornamentation. CONDITION: main display has an age darkened & lightly faded appearance. Many of the brass cartridges show an intermittent dark tarnish. Original glass front on primer display is replaced with plexiglass. Frame shows wear and age darkening. Outer perimeter has worn & chipped paint. (02-17798/DS). $4,000-8,000.
