ARMORY REBUILT MODEL 1795 SPRINGFIELD FLINTLOCK

MUSKET. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 42" proofed w/ a lg. “P” at the left side of the breech. 56 1/2" Overall. Lock is the earliest form “SPRINGFIELD” in the vertical arc rear of cock 1800-1802, last digit in date on buttplate worn away. Script “US” below eagle forward of cock is also worn away. Inspection initial “D” found on lock escutcheon. No internal markings were viewed. Repaired/rebuilt after 1816 using low stock & shortening bbl. to 42" to conform to 1816 regulations. All the iron hardware was retained from the original 1800-1802 musket. CONDITION: good overall, appears original & complete, mottled gray patina w/ pitting, appears to be original flint, vent is wallowed out from use. Ramrod is a replacement & shortened Civil War era, otherwise complete including sling swivels. Stock is sound w/ hand worn patina, scattered cosmetic blemishes, disguised inset between tang & lock. Mechanically functional w/ clear dark bore. (01-19463/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
