GERMAN SILVER INLAYS. Cal. 35. NSN. 37 1/8" octagon bbl. w/ U-notch rear & German silver blade front sights has underrib. Trade percussion lock is unmarked except for remnants of engraving. Curly maple 1/2 stock w/ pewter cap is brass mounted w/ trigger guard having curled finger spur for grip. Crescent buttplate has 5" return & latch for rectangular patchbox cover which is flanked by 2 fancy side plates & hinge plate w/ fleur de lis type finial. German silver inlays include three 8-pointed stars, a prancing fox on face of sm. cheekpiece & an upside down crescent moon behind cheekpiece. Hickory ramrod is held by 2 plain pipes & matching tailpipe. CONDITION: fair. Iron parts w/ overall pitted brown patina. Brass w/ old cleaning, now toning. Stocks w/ old oil refinish have many marks & dings. Bore is good. Rifling evident. Lock & trigger are operable. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19595/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
